A factor in the maintenance of good health. Helps the body to metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Helps normal growth and development.
Vitamin B3, also known as niacin or Niacinamide, aids with circulation, digestion and function of the nervous system. It enables the body to metabolize fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Beef liver, brewer’s yeast, broccoli, carrots, etc, are sources of Vitamin B3.
Niacin and Niacinamide are essentially the same when taken in low doses for nutritional purposes. Only when taken in higher doses, each has a specific effect.
Niacin: As a treatment for high cholesterol, multiple studies show that niacin has significant benefits on levels of high-density cholesterol (HDL or “good cholesterol”), with better results than prescription drugs (such as statins).1 As a result of decreasing cholesterol and lipoprotein(a), niacin will also slow the process of atherosclerosis and thus, reduces the risk of heart disease.2
Niacinamide: Preliminary clinical studies suggest that niacinamide is useful in the treatment of osteoarthritis. In a double-blind study, 72 individuals with arthritis were given niacinamide or a placebo for 12 weeks. 29% of the participants had improvement in their symptoms.
